Northwest University Department of Physics was founded in 1937. It currently boasts various disciplinary platforms, including “The State Key Development Discipline of ‘Project 211’”, “National Base of Natural Sciences for Training Basic Science Research and Teaching Personnel”, “The State Model Teaching Center of Physics Laboratory”, “The State International Cooperation Base of Photoelectric Technology and Functional Materials Application”, “National Key Laboratory and Incubation Base of Photoelectric Technology and Functional Materials Co-funded by Ministry of Education and Shaanxi Province”, “Shaanxi Provincial Innovative Experimental Program of Training Mode on Physics Talents with Innovative Research Ability” and “Shaanxi Provincial-level Key Laboratory of Photoelectric Technology”. The department also offers postdoctoral program in physics, first-level discipline of physics in doctoral program, master program, four bachelor programs, three training disciplines of national key disciplines, three provincial key incubation disciplines and two national special development programs.
   During the development of Department of Physics, remarkable contributions have been made in the fields of transient optics, fiber Bragg grating sensing technology, new all-solid-state laser, quantum field theory, classical and quantum anomalous gauge theory, integrable system and mathematical physics and condensed matter and material physics. Some of these achievements have reached international advanced standard. Since 2002, 30-odd scientific research projects have been conducted by the department, including Key Program of NSFC (National Natural Science Foundation of China), National High Technology Research and Development Program (Program “863”) and National Basic Research Program (Program “973”) etc.. The faculty has published 1,100-odd academic papers, among which 300-odd papers have been archived on SCI. The faculty has also won 20-odd provincial and ministerial level awards, filed 30-odd patents and authored 10-odd monographs and textbooks.
