摘要:

   Particle physics explores three basic frontiers, often called cosmic, energy, and intensity. Experiments at these frontiers are complementary in search for new physics beyond the Standard Model. At the turn of the century the experiments at the Cosmic Frontier have demonstrated that only 5\% of the contents of the Universe are well understood, with the rest composed of mysterious dark matter and dark energies, and has also found evidence for oscillations of neutrinos produced in the atmosphere, sun and accelerator. The energy scales associated with the vacuum/dark energy in the Universe and neutrino masses clearly signal phenomenon that are  beyond the Standard Model,  precisely because of the discrepancy of these scales with those in the Standard Model. Theoretically, understanding the nature of the quantum vacuum and the non-perturbative dynamics of quantum field theories still presents the great challenge. One of the great modern quests in science is to understand the dark, hidden and invisible constituents of the universe, and their intimate relation with the nature of the quantum vacuum and the structure of space-time itself.

The high intensity hadron accelerators CSNS, CIADS and HIAF have been approved by the Chinese central government and are now under construction or under design. They all can provide high intensity primary proton beams. In particular, the designed parameter of the average beam current and beam power of the CADS is at the world's top level. On other hands, Shanghai Coherent Light Facility (SCLF) made up of one optical laser with 800nm and a hundred PW and one X-ray Free Electron Laser with 25keV and high repetitive frequency has been also approved to construct last year. This provide for China to do research at the intensity frontier with excellent discovery reach of new phenomena.

   The fundamental physics at these facilities will be discussed in this talk.

李小源研究员简介:李小源研究员,1965年清华大学工程物理系毕业,相继在中国科学院原子能研究所、高能物理研究所和理论物理研究所从事量子场论和粒子物理研究。其间,1980年至1981年在美国弗吉尼亚理工学院暨州立大学物理系任研究助理,1982年和1984年两次作为德国洪堡基金会会友在汉堡德国同步加速器实验室理论部及慕尼黑马普物理及天体物理研究所从事研究工作。还曾在美国费米国家实验室、夏威夷大学、华盛顿大学、哥伦比亚大学、加州大学圣巴巴拉分校理论物理研究所、加州大学洛杉矶分校及河滨分校等地作访问学者。曾经是中国高等科学技术中心的一般成员及特殊成员。
